Researchers Awarded 2023 Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc./RSNA Research Grants

OAK BROOK, Ill – October 30, 2023 – The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research & Education (R&E) Foundation awarded its Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc./RSNA Research Resident Grants to Melina Hosseiny, M.D., and Laurent Dercle, M.D, Ph.D. These grants are made possible by Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc.’s support of the RSNA R&E Foundation.

The Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc./RSNA Research Resident Grant provides $50,000 for one year to a top resident to devote 50% of their time for a research project under the guidance of a scientific advisor. Through this project, residents can learn about scientific investigation and develop competence in research techniques.

Melina Hosseiny, M.D., University of California, San Diego, will develop an automated, artificial intelligence (AI) tool to assist radiologists in the application LI-RADS for liver lesion categorization in clinical care. The ultimate goal of this project would result in more reliable and accurate treatment decisions for patients.

Laurent Dercle, M.D. Ph.D., Columbia University, will identify a pan-treatment and pan-cancer signature that uses radiomics and machine learning to analyze information captured by routine computed tomographic scans to improve clinical decision making for all patients with advance cancers treated with systemic therapies.

The RSNA R&E Foundation Board of Trustees approved funding for 83 grants in 2023 valued at over $4.7 million. “The RSNA R&E Foundation greatly appreciates the generosity of Cannon Medical Systems USA, Inc., because of this commitment, the RSNA R&E Foundation is able to continue strong support for research innovation and education that elevates our specialty and positions radiology as an essential partner in improving patient outcomes and clinical care,” said Satoshi Minoshima, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the RSNA R&E Foundation Board of Trustees.
