Toshiba’s AIDR 3D Helps Reduce Radiation Dose, Improve Image Quality
TUSTIN, Calif., Dec. 18, 2012 – To lower CT radiation dose for cardiac exams and to improve image quality, the Orlando Health Heart Institute, in Orlando, Fla., utilizes Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.’s AquilionTM ONE CT system with AIDR 3D. The Orlando Health Heart Institute uses the system for diagnoses of cardiac conditions, chest pain symptoms and for the pre-mapping of pulmonary veins.
“Aquilion ONE with AIDR 3D dramatically reduces radiation dose across all patient exams,” said Dr. David Bello, director, Diagnostic Cardiology, Orlando Regional Medical Center and an interventional electrophysiologist at the Orlando Health Heart Institute. “In addition, Aquilion ONE’s fast acquisition time produces highly accurate images of patients with irregular heartbeats, reducing retakes and radiation exposure.”
Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT system covers up to 16 cm of anatomy using 320 ultra-high resolution, 0.5 mm detector elements (640 unique slices), which can image the entire heart in a single rotation. The system also features AIDR 3D, Toshiba’s third-generation iterative dose reconstruction software.
“The unique capabilities on the Aquilion ONE enable physicians to image the entire heart in a single rotation, changing the way disease is diagnosed,” said Satrajit Misra, senior director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba. “Combined with AIDR 3D, the Orlando Health Heart Institute shows how facilities can improve patient safety by reducing radiation dose.”
