Toshiba Medical’s Aquilion LB Enhancements Offer Accurate and Safe Oncology Radiation Therapy Planning

Widest Large Bore CT System Improves Oncology Patient Care with SEMAR and PUREViSION CT Detector

Toshiba Medical introduces its new advanced technology on its Aquilion LB system to make CT for oncology radiation therapy planning comfortable, safe and precise.

TUSTIN, Calif., Sept. 22, 2017 – Making CT for oncology radiation therapy planning comfortable, safe and precise, Toshiba Medical, a Canon Group company, will showcase its new advanced technology on its Aquilion™ LB CT system at this year’s American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in San Diego, September 24–26, 2017 (Booth #3435). Giving oncologists the tools to clearly visualize patients’ anatomy with a lower dose, the system comes standard with Toshiba Medical’s PUREViSION CT Detector and Single Energy Metal Artifact Reduction (SEMARTM).

The Aquilion Large Bore offers a suite of industry-leading clinical and patient-friendly features, including bore size (90 cm), field-of-view (70 cm), optional extended field-of-view (85 cm) and an optional high-capacity couch (660 lb.), to image more patients safely. Toshiba Medical’s PUREViSION CT Detector assists in acquiring high-quality CT images with 16 detector rows, while SEMARTM helps reduce artifacts caused by metal implants, allowing providers to view more clinical information. Additionally, the Aquilion Large Bore includes Toshiba Medical’s AIDR 3D Enhanced, which lowers radiation dose compared with conventional scanning.

“Improving visualization with clearer CT images at a lower dose is necessary for radiation therapy planning,” said Dominic Smith, senior director, CT, PET/CT, and MR Business Units, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. “We aim to deliver versatile solutions that meet health care providers’ clinical and business needs, and the addition of SEMAR and PUREViSION CT Detector technology on the Aquilion Large Bore will give oncologists the confidence that they are making the right diagnosis for all patients.”

Dr. Jatinder Palta, Ph.D., professor, Radiation Oncology, chair, Medical Physics, VCU School of Medicine, will be presenting on “Uncompromised Patient Model for Treatment Planning: Advantages of a 90 cm CT Bore” and his use of the Aquilion LB with SEMAR during a dinner symposium at this year’s ASTRO, on September 25, 2017.
