TUSTIN, California — November 12, 2008 — Further illustrating its ground-breaking medical imaging technology and innovation in the field of radiology, the Aquilion® ONE dynamic volume CT system has been named “Minnies 2008” Best New Radiology Device, an accolade given by AuntMinnie.com and selected by an expert panel of radiology professionals.
The “Minnies 2008,” AuntMinnie.com’s annual recognition of excellence in radiology, named finalists in 13 different categories. Nominations for “Minnies” occur every September by AuntMinnie.com members, with radiology professionals selecting the best candidates as semifinalists and finalists for this prestigious award. There were 19 medical devices nominated for the Best New Radiology Device, the category in which Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE was voted number one.
“Being awarded the Best New Radiology Device of 2008 by a panel of leaders in radiology recognizes the game-changing nature of the Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT,” said Doug Ryan, senior director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba. “It is an honor for Toshiba to receive such an accolade.”
The Aquilion ONE, by Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc., is the first dynamic volume CT system in the world. Using its 320 ultra-high resolution detector rows (0.5 mm in width), the Aquilion ONE scans an entire organ, up to 16 cm of anatomy, in a single pass and can produce a 4D video that shows an organ’s structure, movement and blood flow.
This unprecedented diagnostic imaging technique reduces diagnosis time from hours and days to mere minutes, pivotal for treating at-risk patients with stroke, serious heart conditions and other life-threatening diseases. In addition, the Aquilion ONE’s single, comprehensive exam can replace a variety of duplicative tests and invasive procedures, increasing patient throughput and comfort while lowering healthcare costs and radiation exposure.
