TOSHIBA INFINIX SYSTEMS USED IN LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS AT TCT CONFERENCE

Live Cases Showcase System’s Unique C-arm Positioning and Unparalleled Patient Access

TUSTIN, California — October 15, 2008 — The unique C-arm positioning of the Toshiba Infinix™ cardiovascular X-ray system provides physicians and support personnel superior access to the patient. Demonstrating these capabilities, Toshiba’s Infinix CF-i/BP and Infinix DP-i configurations will be used in multiple live cases at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference, held in Washington, D.C. from October 12–17, 2008.

Rush University Medical Center and Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute will use Toshiba Infinix systems to perform live cases at the symposium. These institutions have been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as two of nation’s premier healthcare facilities.

Dr. Ziyad M. Hijazi, director of the Rush Center for Congenital and Structural Heart Disease, will perform a percutaneous valve procedure, an atrial septal defect (ASD) closure and a coarctation with stents using the Infinix CF-i/BP. The design of the Infinix CF-i/BP system will assist with the procedures, enhancing collaboration between clinicians and critical equipment to aid diagnosis and treatment. The floor-based rotation mechanism of the C-arm allows staff to have 180 degree access around the head-end of the table.

“The high image quality produced by our Infinix system and the unique positioning is ideal in treating patients with congenital heart disease and valve problems,” said Dr. Hijazi. “The innovative biplane system is well-suited for studies requiring complicated and advanced techniques, including transcatheter procedures.”

Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute will perform additional live cases during the TCT symposium using the Infinix DP-i. Dr. Christopher J. White, M.D., chairman of the Department of Cardiology and Dr. Stephen R. Ramee, M.D., director of Cardiac Catheterization, both of Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute, will perform a renal and mesenteric intervention procedure and a superficial femoral artery (SFA) as a live demonstration.

“The dual panel of the Infinix DP-i cardiovascular X-ray system enables us to select the right detector for the anatomy we are imaging,” said Dr. White. “The image quality and patient focused features of the system will be exemplified in the live cases we conduct at the TCT symposium.”

The Infinix DP-i’s unique dual C-arm system allows one lab to perform like two. One C-arm is designed for cardiac work, while the other is optimized for peripheral work outside the heart, such as carotids, renals and legs.

The annual TCT symposium has become the primary means by which state-of-the-art techniques and training are disseminated to interventionalists around the world. This allows them to bring innovative breakthroughs to their practices and dramatically improve the lives of their patients with cardiovascular disease.
