TOSHIBA INTRODUCES SURESUBTRACTION SOFTWARE PACKAGE FOR NEUROLOGICAL CT ANGIOGRAPHY PROCEDURES

Software Automates Bone Subtraction Process, Saves Critical Time For Patients with Neurological Symptoms

TUSTIN, CA — June 13, 2007 — Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. introduces a new advanced software package, SURESubtraction, for Toshiba’s Aquilion® CT line that will reduce CT examination time for patients exhibiting symptoms of neurological disorders by automating and streamlining bone subtraction. Currently, subtracting bone from neurological CT angiography procedures is a cumbersome and timely process — physicians must scan the brain twice, once with contrast and once without contrast, and then manually subtract bone structures from the image to better visualize the vessels and tissue. Toshiba’sSURESubtraction technology completely automates the bone subtraction process, reducing exam time by as much as 90 percent and resulting in faster, more accurate exams.

“In keeping with our customer focused market approach with SURETechnologies, we are very pleased to announce the latest release in advanced automated applications,” said Doug Ryan, senior director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba. “Toshiba’s new SURESubtraction software directly impacts patient care because it speeds up critical CT exams and reduces the physician’s time to diagnosis.”

SURESubtraction is another example of the products Toshiba offers to help its customers improve overall efficiency. The new advanced application is exclusive to Toshiba and is an option for Toshiba’s 8-, 16-, 32- and 64-slice CT systems. Given the software’s ability to detect and successfully subtract bone from images, it offers a number of clinical applications, including:

  • Cerebral aneurysms — especially close to the bone
  • Patients with ischemic disease — ICA, basilar artery
  • Cases with stenosis or occlusion — close to bone
  • Patients with a clip or coil
  • Patients with calcification
  • Patients with hypervascular tumor
  • Patients scanned from neck to head

SURESubtraction will be clinically evaluated at a number of Toshiba’s luminary sites before it’s made available to customers.
